Frequently asked questions
The best type of roller blinds will depend on what room they’re in and what your needs are. Blockout roller blinds are best for bedrooms where you need darkness and night-time privacy, while sunscreen roller blinds are best in living areas where you want daytime privacy and still want to be able to see out. Light filtering roller blinds give you a little of both, with night-time and daytime privacy but not as dark at night and not as see through during the day.
The best colour for roller blinds is the one that suits your room! Light grey or a subtle beige are popular choices, but darker tones can be better for making a bit of an impact by contrasting with light coloured walls.
Inside fit roller blinds are more common as they create a sleek look, however, if your main concern is blocking light, an inside fit will still allow some light through around the edges. This makes an outside fit a better choice if you’re wanting it dark. An outside fit may also be required if the frame of your window isn’t deep enough to support an inside fit.
The only real disadvantage to double roller blinds is the additional cost of using two sets of blinds on the same window. However, this extra cost is often lower than you might think, so it’s worth considering getting a quote if you would like the benefits of privacy and light control during both day and night-time.
Roller blinds and roller shades are actually the same thing! They are just different terms that describe the same product.
The colour you choose for your blinds can drastically change the look of a room. Generally speaking, lighter tones will make this feel more expansive while darker tones, especially when they contrast with light-coloured walls, will draw the eye more. This could potentially make a room feel smaller, but it could also help draw the eye to unique details or features in the room.
Custom roller blinds are usually expected to last about 8-10 years. The life expectancy can change depending on how much direct sun the roller blind is up against and the possibility of additional damage from pets, children, or spills.
Unlike curtains, roller blinds don’t have a front or back and so can be fitted in either direction. However, when you get a custom blind made, the consultant will advise on which direction the blind should roll and it will be made and fitted to your preference.
When fully open, the top of a roller blind is relatively unobtrusive, and many people choose to leave it as it is. However, if you want to hide the top of your roller blind, you can choose to fit a fascia or pelmet to fit over the top of your window.
