Frequently asked questions
PVC shutters are ideal in rooms with high humidity like bathrooms or kitchens. They’re durable, easy to clean, and come in a range of colours for an affordable option.
Vinyl and PVC are actually the same material so there is no difference! While most New Zealand companies refer to them as PVC shutters, some other places around the world use the term vinyl shutters. But rest assured, they are the same material.
PVC shutters are a durable, easy to maintain alternative to wood, and they’re more affordable too! While wood shutters might be something you’d like to invest in, PVC is a solid alternative for the budget-conscious.
Aluminium does not absorb any water or humidity and is also completely fireproof, making it a great option for shutters in bathrooms and kitchens. However, they won’t keep water out of your home during rain!
Aluminium is naturally resistant to corrosion, so your aluminium shutters shouldn’t rust as long as they are kept free of debris.
While aluminium shutters will get fairly warm in direct sunlight, they reflect most of the heat away, keeping your home a bit cooler.
While wood shutters are definitely an investment, they do have a beautiful, timeless style. And they are not as difficult to care for as you might think.
When it comes to choosing wood or faux wood for your shutters, deciding which is better is all about your priorities. Wood shutters are definitely a beautiful look, but they do come with some extra care and maintenance to keep them in top shape. Faux wood shutters offer a similar look at a more affordable price point, and they are less hassle to care for over time – but faux wood won’t quite live up to the look of real wood.
When fully closed, shutters will block quite a bit of light, but not all of it. And when open, shutters let in plenty of light!

Shutters are popular for a reason but there are a couple of downsides to consider. First, shutters are significantly more expensive than standard blinds. They also take up more space than most types of blinds, so make sure you have the space for them to function properly.
While shutters require a bit more investment upfront, they are worth it for the great functionality, added security, and increased kerbside appeal.
Yes, shutters are designed to allow you to still open your windows as normal. They are usually installed with a hinge to open them, providing access to the window mechanisms.
Shutters are often paired with curtains for a more versatile and customisable look, however, you don’t need to add curtains as well! Shutters stand well on their own as well, especially in areas where curtains aren’t suitable, like bathrooms or kitchens.
Quality shutters can add insulating properties to your windows for a warmer room in the winter, however they are not as effective as a specifically thermal option.
Shutters come in a range of options and the best ones for you will depend on your budget and your style. Real timber shutters are lovely in character homes, but are higher maintenance, while PVC options are durable and more budget friendly.
